Psychology applied to U-turn

Lets say you are at a road which has U turn 1 km away.

Consider 2 scenarios

Scenario1: The place you would like to reach is almost 1 Km away, just before the U turn.
Scenario2: The place you would like to reach is 200m away

Assuming that you have to return to the place you started, how would you react in these 2 cases.

It is likely that you would be happy off in Scenario1 than Scenario2. Why?

The distance traveled is same in both the cases. Maybe people feel that in Scenario2, traveling additional 800m (to & fro) is not productive - involves additional fuel, time. Of course, in Scenario2, you would not feel that the shop is far and thus you need to travel further 800m.

Surprising how human psychology works
