Conservation of resources

Few days back, I happened to read an article on depletion of natural resources and their implications. After I finished reading the article, I was immediately thinking about Movies. I felt the same principle applied here. Natural resources should be carefully planned and preserved so that we have them for future consumption. If we consume everything in the present itself, there wouldn't be anything left for future. Similarly, the number of movies in all the languages I can understand (Telugu, Hindi, English, Tamil) are limited.

Many a time I used to watch 4 movies in a day. There were numerous occasions in the past 10 years where I watched over 6 VCDs/DVDs in a single day. Whenever a new movie is released, I feel restless till the time i watch it. If 4 movies get released in a week, i try to watch all the 4 ASAP and end up waiting for the next release. If only I could plan these and watch one per day or in 2 days, I could have the movies available over the week (taking a pragmatic view that I would not be able to watch it everyday due to the nature of work I do) till Friday when the next set of movies get released.

I watched Friends 1st season a month back. Today I watched 9th season. Before I watched Friends, I used to wonder what makes most of the people write Friends as their favorite TV Series in their profiles/blogs and what makes orkut and other similar online social networking sites to ask for TV series. Today, Friends is updated in my profile as well as one of my favorite TV series. Now I am left with just 1 more season. I would have watched it yesterday itself has I not read the article. There are about 25 episodes in that and I plan to watch it over the next month or 2.

Isnt this conservation of the entertainment resources we have, which are scarce & limited? I believe it is also time I look for alternate sources of entertainment :-)

Anything in excess is not good and variety is definitely the spice of life.

That said, with Youtube, torrents, etc, it is easier than ever before to access a variety of different entertainment "resources".

Yeah Rithesh. Youtube is definitely a good source for different entertainment resources. But there is again so much junk on it that I just prefer to get the URLs of the interesting resources from my friends rather than spend time discovering the same.

I have 2 comments.
1. The use of the "Conservation" idea here: In what I have seen, "Conversation" is usually used for a resource which when used/exploited by few members of a community affects the others in the community (eg, oil, trees etc). In your case, even if you watch all the movies, they are still available for others. Hence, this is "conservation" in personal sense. However, this is a novel thought!
2. I tend to understand the interest a reader has when he/she reads a novel for hours together. But I dont understand how one can watch movies together. Do you watch them completely from an entertainment perspective? (I want at least 1 out of 4 movies I watch to have an impact on me. Like "Life is beautiful" or the recent "Pursuit of Happyness". I would not watch any other movie with them to avoid losing the impact). What is your take?

Nice! It looks like you use cross-functional knowledge to apply and learn!! Btw, my favorite TV show is "The Cosby Show".
